A beginner’s guide to meditation

If you're embarking on the path of meditation, I'm here to provide a beginner's guide to this enriching practice. Picture a sanctuary of calmness and clarity that can be achieved in just a few minutes a day – here’s a little breakdown of how to get there.

Firstly, find a peaceful and uninterrupted space conducive to quiet reflection. Let's begin with a modest timeframe, say 5-10 minutes, as a starting point. Assume a comfortable posture, close your eyes, and take a series of deliberate, deep breaths. The sensation of the breath entering and exiting forms a focal point that helps you quiet your thoughts and slow the body down.

Anticipate that thoughts will surface; this is a natural aspect of the process. When they do, simply acknowledge them without judgment and gently guide your focus back to your breath. Continue by focusing on the breath, or an external sound like a ticking of a clock or humming in the space, allowing each part to relax in turn. For those new to the practice, guided meditations can be a helpful aid, to keep bringing you back to the practice.

Consistency is key; establish a daily routine to witness the evolution of your practice. Meditation is a diverse realm with various techniques, allowing for exploration to identify what resonates best with you. I extend an invitation to continue this journey towards inner peace and mindfulness. We all have the capacity to embrace the challenge gracefully. As I always say “It’s both simple and challenging at the same time.
